Psychosexual Therapy

Who is Psychosexual Therapy for?

Psychosexual Therapy can help individuals and couples with psychological and physical difficulties of a sexual nature.

How Does Psychosexual Therapy Work?

Psychosexual therapists create an environment free of judgement, in which individuals are encouraged to speak openly about personal sexual experiences, thoughts and behaviours.  Therapists then help people to identify the root cause of their sexual problems by exploring relationships, personal life and past experiences.  Following this, therapists will provide a number of tailored techniques for people to practice in order to resolve the sexual problem that has been identified.

“My husband and I tried a number of counsellors in Fulham before we found The British CBT & Counselling Service. It was such a different experience to the ones we had had before and this time it actually seems to have worked! I would recommend that if you are struggling in your relationship you should try them”.

What the Research into Psychosexual Therapy Says

Although limited, research studies into the use of psychosexual therapy reveal encouraging outcomes for people with a number of sexual problems along with positive results for those with sexual difficulties related to disability. Additionally, further studies demonstrate that along with a cognitive behavioural approach, psychosexual therapy works well in tackling many of the psychological factors that can impact sexual functioning.
