A Guide to CBT Counselling
It is not always the right time to change.
Counselling of any kind is challenging and so if you do not feel you have the capacity to engage in a course right now but would like to do something towards resolving your problem, one of the books listed below may provide you with a useful starting point.
General
- The Mental Fitness Guide, Manage your Mind. Butler, G. & Hope, T. (1995)
- Easy to read and covers a range of problems from anxiety and depression to relationship and sleep problems.
- Mind Over Mood: A Cognitive Therapy Treatment Manual for Clients. Greenberger, D., & Padesky, C. (1995)
- A good introduction to CBT Counselling for those who are new to it.
- Reinventing Your Life (1993) Young, J. E. & Klosko, J. S.
- A self help book with addressing more entrenched patterns and problems. It is recommended that this is read whilst you undertake a course of CBT Counselling.
Eating Disorders
- Overcoming Binge Eating (1995) Fairburn, C.
- A CBT Counselling guided self-help book for those suffering from symptoms of Bulimia Nervosa.
- Getting Better Bit(e) by Bit(e)(1993) Schmidt, U. & Treasure, J.
- More CBT Counselling help for those suffering from Bulimia Nervosa
- Anorexia Nervosa, A Survival Guide for Families and Friends and Sufferers (1997).
- Helps both those with Anorexia and their families to understand more about the problems and start to work towards making some changes.
Anxiety

- This is part of a series of CBT Counselling self help books that address problems from a CBT perspective.
Depression

- This is part of a series of CBT Counselling self help books that address problems from a CBT perspective.
Post traumatic Stress Disorder

- Contains lots of practical CBT Counselling strategies and information.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
