Philosophy
“Our life is what our thoughts make it” – Marcus Aurelius
At times your inner world can feel out of balance. You may feel lonely or disconnected and just not certain on how to make things right. I believe that if you can master how you think, you will have control over how you feel. Through therapy we look at alternative ways of thinking, having a positive impact on how you feel and behave.
Approach
Being listened to and understood by a caring professional in an empathic therapeutic relationship can bring tremendous relief from emotional conflict and pain, develop a stronger self, and promote constructive ways to live a more fulfilling and happy life. I approach therapy with professionalism and a sense of humour, while providing a supportive and confidential environment.
My main therapeutic approach is CBT, however, therapy is tailored to the unique needs and goals of each client, so my approach can be best described as integrative.
Motivation
I have always enjoyed talking to people and hearing about their life experiences. When someone is struggling, I found that it would touch me deeply and I felt a strong desire to help them feel better. I soon came to realise that becoming a psychologist was the right career path for me, as I could not imagine anything more meaningful than helping others through their life issues.
It is such a rewarding experience to see my clients progress through therapy and achieve their personal goals. Everyone has a personal best – I am a firm believer of that.
About Me
Since qualifying in 2006 and completing a post-graduate diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology, I worked in several roles across the NHS and independent sector. These include inpatient, outpatient and community services with adults presenting a wide range of mental health or neuropsychological difficulties/conditions, such as: adjustment, abuse, anger, anxiety, depression, OCD, post-traumatic stress, perfectionism, self-esteem, trauma, phobias, stress, emotional regulation, sleep, eating disorders, personality disorders, psychosis, stroke, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, dementia, among others.
I offer therapy in both English and Portuguese. When not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and with my energetic dachshund. I also enjoy travelling, cinema, photography and music.
