“Our life is what our thoughts make it” – Marcus Aurelius
At times your inner world can feel out of balance. You may feel lonely or disconnected and just not certain on how to make things right. I believe that if you can master how you think, you will have control over how you feel. Through therapy we look at alternative ways of thinking, having a positive impact on how you feel and behave.
Making the decision to enter psychotherapy can be a very difficult one and can trigger strong emotions such as fear and anxiety. This is normal. However, as a professionally trained and experienced counselling psychologist, I can offer a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space to explore your difficulties and your choices. I will listen to you without judgement as we work together to achieve your goals in life. My therapeutic approach is drawn primarily from third wave CBT models such as ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) existential and psychodynamic models. However, the important thing is that I am interested in you and how you experience your life and as such, my therapeutic approach will be tailored to your specific needs. I offer short and long term therapy to individuals and couples
I am motivated by the belief that you can, with support, not only manage the emotional pain that you are experiencing but you can transform your life.
As a specialist in work related and personal stress, I understand how conflict with work colleagues, increased workload, lack of support and loss of meaning and purpose can strain one’s mental health. The stress you are experiencing at work may have been triggered or compounded by personal issues such as bereavement, relationship problems, unresolved past issues or a general sense of emptiness. This can be overwhelming as can be an experience whereby an individual’s nationality, culture, or ethnicity is not regarded with equal value and leaves them with feelings of isolation, rejection and a sense of not belonging. All these experiences can make life seem unbearable. However, I believe it is possible, with therapy, to heal psychological distress and find your agency to explore the choices you have and to create a more meaningful and purposeful life.
I am a BPS and HCPC registered Counselling Psychologist. I am an expert in supporting clients who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression or discrimination. I hold a professional doctorate in counselling psychology, a postgraduate diploma in psychology and a postgraduate certificate in counselling.
I work with clients to understand their lived experience and what challenges they are currently facing to their mental health. I have extensive experience as a staff psychologist in the NHS – most recently supporting health professionals who have worked on the front line during the Covid-19 pandemic. My work both as a staff psychologist and in my private practice, involves working with clients struggling with work related and personal issues that have impacted their mental health. Before becoming a counselling psychologist, I worked as a management consultant. As well as my clinical practice, I write articles and deliver workshops on a range of psychological issues.
