Philosophy
Psychological difficulty can arise in our lives for many reasons. When we become stuck in psychological distress, sometimes it is difficult to find a way out alone. It may feel as if you are wading through a field of deep mud, with no end in sight. I believe that psychological therapy can help nudge you out of this position, out of the mud, and ideally into a place where you can think and behave in more helpful ways. I believe that the past is important, but the present is where we can try to make changes to enhance our quality of life.
Approach
As a general guide, you could expect the first few sessions with me to feel like an introduction. It’s a chance for me to understand your situation and collaboratively piece together some ideas of how we could work together. Sometimes I will ask you to fill in questionnaires to help me better understand your current difficulties. Usually we would then discuss a plan for your therapy which should be based on your own personal goals. The course of therapy may need to be amended as time goes on. In order for you to make the most of therapy I will probably ask you to do some tasks in between sessions. The main approach I draw from is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) although I may also integrate approaches such as Mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy into my work.
Motivation
My motivation comes from a personal desire to support others to live full and meaningful lives, with an awareness of their psychological health. The shared responsibility I have with my patients whilst we discover their true selves and help shape a brighter future is something that sits at the heart of being a Psychologist for me.
About Me
I have a personal interest in experiencing different cultures, which has led me to travel extensively throughout my life. This same curiosity has fuelled an interest in yoga and mindfulness, both of which play a part in my own life.
A Recent Testimonial
Jennifer - Islington“I struggled with anxiety/OCD for many many years but with the help from Lisa I was able to find myself again – enjoy the things that I used to and find my confidence again. I’m much better having had sessions with Lisa – my concentration has improved markedly, everything’s a lot less complicated! There’s homework each session which challenges your existing thought patterns and helps you identify what is causing problem behaviours. If you want to get to the root of your problem these sessions can help you to get there”.
