I believe that psychological health can be improved through self-awareness and connection; knowing yourself, your values, and feeling connected to the people and things you care about. It is so easy to feel lost in this confusing world; particularly when we are stressed, overwhelmed, or attempting to deal with emotional wounds. For my clients I hope to be a step toward reconnecting with what they want, and need, to lead a fulfilling life.
My therapeutic approach is integrative and I adapt the therapeutic tools and methods I use to suit the client I am working with. The therapeutic approaches I draw from most frequently are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion Focussed Therapy. I describe myself as a mindful practitioner. I wholeheartedly believe in the importance of being in the moment with my clients, truly hearing, seeing and understanding their experience in order to help more effectively.
I am also trained in Behavioural Family Therapy and I am experienced in working with families, and children and young people.
I value the diversity of the clients I see, and I practice with cultural humility. This means that I am attentive of the aspects of a client’s identity that are most important and relevant for them. I have experience working with clients from a range of ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds and with issues surrounding aspects of identity such as sexuality, gender, race and heritage.
I feel privileged every time a new client shares their story with me and I am invited to build a helping relationship with them. The process of making sense of a client’s difficulties, supporting them to foster hope, and facilitating positive changes is hugely rewarding. The complexity of human experience and emotion also means that no two clients, or sessions, are the same.
I grew up in inner-city Birmingham and have had a range of diverse life experiences. These experiences have grounded me with a strong sense of who I am and what is important to me. I aim to bring this into my work and hope that clients experience me as approachable, authentic, and, most importantly, helpful!
