Most people who suffer from eating disorders have a range of symptoms across the various common types (anorexia, bulimia, binge eating etc) so please don’t feel concerned if your own symptoms don’t seem to match up with a single condition as this is perfectly normal. Dear Dr Gray, I have been trying to lose weight for years and in doing so have tried every possible diet you can imagine. I start well but after a few weeks (days sometimes) I end up bingeing on all the forbidden food and then in a desperate attempt to compensate I make myself sick and sometime take laxatives. Contrary to popular opinion an individual suffering from an eating disorders (Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified {EDNOS}) has not lost their appetite (in the case of those with anorexia nervosa) nor are they experiencing an increased in appetite/are being greedy (in the case of those who are binge eating; which occurs for those with anorexia nervosa, binge/purge subtype, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorders and an eating disorder not otherwise specified [EDNOS]).
