It might be difficult to talk to a stranger about your difficulties or about topics that seem quite personal. I aim to provide a safe and non-judgemental environment, where you will feel heard and understood.
I recognise that there is not one “right” therapeutic approach that fits everyone. Therefore, my approach is based on your own individual needs – I work flexibly and collaboratively to find the best way of working for you.
I have been interested in and dedicated my Doctoral thesis to the phenomenon of the “wounded healer”, or the experience of trauma, mental health difficulties or other “wounds” amongst mental health professionals. I recognise that experiencing difficulties in life is part of being human and I am passionate about helping others and supporting them in alleviating their distress.
I am trained in Humanistic and Cognitive-Behavioural approaches to therapy. I also have experience in third-wave CBT, such as Mindfulness and Compassion-Focused therapy.
I have experience of working with a variety of client groups, from children to older adults, and psychological difficulties, such as: low self-esteem, stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), trauma and complex trauma, sexual abuse, substance misuse, phobias, disordered eating, obsessive-compulsive thoughts/behaviours and others. I also currently work in a mental health service supporting veterans, so I have a detailed knowledge and understanding of military trauma.
