I believe that psychological wellbeing is as important as physical health. I see therapy as an effective part of staying as healthy as possible in order to lead a fulfilling life. I value the space that therapy offers people as it allows exploration and understanding in the presence of another who is able to guide the therapeutic process. In therapy, invisible knots may be untied and people may go on to lead freer and more satisfying lives. The process is not easy but it is worthwhile.
I have a lot of experience in working with children, adolescents and families and very much enjoy working across the lifespan. I use attachment and psychodynamic theories in my work as I consider the relationship between myself and my client is the bedrock to our work and know that a client’s relationships with their significant others are hugely important factors in their psychological wellbeing. I am able to use a range of psychological models (e.g. CBT, DBT, narrative) with people and am skilled in developing a clear understanding of what people need from me and choosing an approach that best suits their needs. I am adaptable and resilient and use these qualities to offer people an open and safe space in therapy.
I am naturally very curious and open-minded and this led to me working with people when I was in my teens; I have gravitated towards serving and helping people as it suits my personality. I have a lot of respect for peoples’ differences and enjoy seeing people use whatever resources they have to build decent lives for themselves. I am naturally optimistic and a good problem solver but am also able to suspend taking action in order to sit with difficult experiences that bring people to therapy; whilst I am able to help navigate ways out of situations, I do not rush into “rescue” people and appreciate that bearing witness to suffering is often the most precious thing I can offer to a person.
I am very active and love martial arts, running and motorbikes. I am a qualified yoga instructor and keen baker. I bought a guitar 5 years ago but still cannot play it. I speak very basic Bengali in a Mancunian accent.
